Jamin causes xruns count to explodeI am posting another thread as I'm not sure if this belongs in my old on latency tweaking. Last night I finally tweaked Jack so that it ran stable, meaning zero xruns. The latency was acceptable as well. I was running Ardour and decided I would try to play around with Jackmin. Upon loading Jackmin the xruns began to skyrocket through the roof. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Hi saghaulor, That's perhaps
Hi saghaulor,
That's perhaps due to your hardware, what's your system?
Did you try to increase latency?
Do you mean Jamin?
Jamin is realtively CPU hungry, most mastering plugins are. It's fine to run Jack in playback only mode and increase your frames/period while mastering, as you wouldn't normally be overdubbing your project at the same time.
RE: I did mean Jamin
I'll give playback mode a shot tonight and see what it does. Hopefully I'll have a response for you by the end of the night.
Hardware:
Computer:
Averatec 2300
Amd Turion 64 X2 TL-50 (1.6GHz)
1 gig DDR2
100 gig SATA HDD
Dual Layer DVD+/-RW
nVIDIA GeForce Go 6100
1 Firewire (4 pin)
3 UBS 2.0
4-in-1 Media Reader
12.1" WXVGA Display
Sound Card:
M-Audio Duo
Update
I tweaked Jack to run in playback mode. I then started Ardour without any xruns. I opened my previously recorded file, still no xruns. I then opened JAMin, still no xruns. A minute or two into the session I incurred one xrun and then another several minutes later. I figure with a slightly higher frames/latency I can run JAMin xrun free.
My only concern is this. Will I be able to write the changes in JAMin to disk now that my settings are set to playback? I'm pretty sure I will be able to, I'm just asking to verify my belief.
Daniel, again I thank you so much for you assistance.
USB sound cards
Playback means that you can only play with your sound card but you can record internal sounds. USB sound cards usually works better if you use 3 Periods/Buffer in QJackCtl setup.
